When traveling to the Spanish island of Majorca, it can be difficult to decide where best to stay right now. You can choose to stay in one fixed place, but if you want to make a round trip we recommend staying in several places. That way you won’t have to travel unnecessary long distances. From beautiful agritourisms among olive groves to unique hotels with sea views or local B&Bs, there is plenty of choice anyway. Where to stay in Mallorca?
Mallorca is the largest island of the Balearic Islands, so the distances are often underestimated. Especially in the Tramuntana Mountains, your drive can sometimes take longer than expected because of the many hairpin turns. Are you planning a round trip on Mallorca? Then we recommend staying the first days in the Serra de Tramuntana and the second half of your trip on the east side with its many beaches (or vice versa). Capital Palma de Mallorca is also a good base, but this can be pricey in high season so early booking is recommended.
1) Capital city Palma de Mallorca
The capital Palma de Mallorca is a very nice place to stay. You will find beautiful sights such as the cathedral La Seu or or the extraordinary Can Forteza Rey. Furthermore, you already have nice beaches and bays within walking distance. At night the city really comes alive and you can eat endless tapas in the many nice restaurants. Prices can be very high in high season, so early booking is recommended!
Budget (€): El Josemari
Price – quality this hip hostel is really recommended. You sleep in a room but with the curtain you definitely have enough privacy. Furthermore, it is centrally located and a nice place to meet fellow travelers.
Comfort (€€): Palau Sa Font
This hotel is characterized by its typical Majorcan style. The rooms are an oasis of calm and there is even a swimming pool to cool off after a day in Palma de Mallorca.
Luxurious (€€€): Hotel Cappuccino
This hotel is so beautiful and really has everything that you won’t want to leave. From a luxurious pool with bar to gym and fantastic breakfast. And all within walking distance of the cathedral!
2) Mountain villages of Valldemossa & Deia (West)
Those traveling to Mallorca cannot miss a visit to Valldemossa and Deia. These picturesque mountain villages are characterized by the many, stone houses with pastel-colored doors and shutters. You will find cobbled streets full of flower pots and quaint stores and restaurants. In the background you can see the rugged mountain peaks of Serra de Tramuntana. Accommodations are scarcer there, but if you stay overnight you won’t have to share the villages with the many day-trippers in the morning and evening.
Budget (€): Ca’s Papa
Budget is relative in these popular villages. But at Ca’s Papa you really do get value for money. The location is super, the rooms are comfortable and spacious, and you have great views of Valldemossa.
Comfort (€€): Son Niu Vell-La Hermossa
This beautiful country house is within walking distance of Valldemossa. The hosts go out of their way to make you feel at home in this unique interior with outdoor pool.
Luxurious (€€€): La Residencia (Belmond Hotel)
This is perhaps the most famous hotel in Mallorca and oozes pure luxury. World stars such as Robbie Williams and Kate Moss regularly stay here. A room is not cheap, but sleeping here is an experience in itself. You will also find the popular restaurant El Olivo.
3) Among the orange trees in Sóller (West)
Soller is another beautiful town in Serra de Tramuntana, and more specifically in the valley of oranges. So in and around Soller you will see numerous orange trees. Furthermore, a must-do is to take the authentic wooden streetcar (the Orange Express) that takes you from the center to Port de Soller. Because Soller is larger than Valldemossa and Deia, you have more options for accommodations here.
Budget (€): Hostal Nadal
Hostal Nadal is right in the center of Soller, 150 meters from the main square. You will find comfortable rooms at a competitive price.
Comfort (€€): Hotel Casa Bougainvillea
Located in an old mansion, this hotel is completely decorated in Mediterranean style. The garden with plants and colorful flowers will make you forget that you are in the center of Soller.
Luxurious (€€€): Hotel Finca Ca N’ai
This luxurious country house is located between Soller and Port de Soller. The large pool with views of palm trees and Tramuntana Mountains will put you in a vacation mood.
4) Most beautiful beaches near Cala d’Or (East)
The East of Mallorca is characterized by its many beautiful beaches and coves (calas). Whether you like lively beaches with cozy beach bars or prefer to look for a hidden cove to enjoy in peace and quiet, there is something for everyone. This rustic agroturismo has everything you can imagine in a Spanish country house. The large pool in the green surroundings completes the picture and it is within walking distance of Cala d’Or!
Luxurious (€€): Inturotel Cala Esmeralda Beach Hotel & Spa
This modern 5-star hotel is located right on the beach. You will find several restaurants, a fitness and spa and no less than three outdoor pools. So plenty for everyone!
5) Bustling Alcúdia (North)
Alcudia in northern Mallorca is another fine place to stay. Every week you will find a local market on Tuesdays and Sundays. Furthermore, you have the historic center and on the boulevard of Port d’Alcudia you will find plenty of stores and restaurants. Whether you are looking for a child-friendly destination or a fun night out with friends, Alcudia has something for everyone.
Budget (€): Ara Alcudia
Again, budget in Alcudia is relative, but this cozy boutique hotel is well worth its money. The location is fantastic and the breakfast included is very extensive.
Comfort (€€): Bordoy Mostatxins
Are you looking for a unique hotel? Then you have come to the right place at Bordoy Mostatxins. This adults only hotel breathes history because of its location in a 15th century building. The finish is beautiful and straight out of a lifestyle magazine.
Luxurious (€€€): Prinsotel La Dorada
Waking up with a view of the sea, who wouldn’t want that? Prinsotel La Dorada offers that and so much more. Furthermore, it is located on the edge of the Albufera Nature Reserve and 200 meters from the Bay of Alcudia.
6) Best luxury hotels Mallorca
Finally, we want to end with three hotels in Mallorca that are absolutely worth a mention. Mallorca has an awful lot of beautiful agriturismos and luxury resorts. If you really want to pamper yourself and immerse yourself in luxury, then these three luxury hotels in Mallorca are definitely worth considering.
This five-star hotel was on The Tatler’s list of the 101 best hotels in the world. It’s not hard to see why! Located in Santanyi, you’ll find this beautifully converted estate from the 1600s. The 32 rooms are bright and elegant, and one suite even has a private garden and plunge pool.
